Timothy O'Connor, MD
Timothy O’Connor, M.D., is a neurological surgeon and the director of minimally invasive surgery and robotic spine surgery at Marcus Neuroscience Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, part of Baptist Health. Dr. O’Connor specializes in minimally invasive, robotic and complex deformity surgery.
Prior to joining Marcus Neuroscience Institute in 2021, Dr. O’Connor completed a neurological surgery residency at the University at Buffalo, where he was chief resident.
He attended the University of Florida for his undergraduate education, where he graduated summa cum laude with a degree in neurobiological sciences. He received his medical degree from the University of Florida, where he graduated with honors in research and honors in academic excellence.
During medical school, he was invited to join the University of Florida College of Medicine admissions committee and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He received the resident of the year award and the highest neurosurgery board score award at the University at Buffalo Neurosurgery during his residency.
While completing his complex spine fellowship, he was awarded the AO Discovery and Innovation Young Investigator grant by the AO Spine Foundation for his biomechanical research in junctional tethers. He was also invited to join the AO Knowledge Forum, a leading group of surgeons around the world who collaborate on solving some of the greatest challenges in modern spine surgery.
Dr. O’Connor has written peer-reviewed technical manuscripts on robotic spine systems and minimally invasive approaches. He has been invited to present at multiple national and international conferences, including the Global Spine Congress, the International Spinal Deformity Symposium and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
Dr. O’Connor’s approach to patient care is to focus on each individual and provide care that reflects the patient’s own personal goals and values. He emphasizes communication with patients, families, referring physicians and the entire treatment team. He believes that after conservative treatment options are no longer effective, surgery combined with technology and a minimally invasive approach can help achieve the best possible outcome for each patient.
When he is not treating patients, Dr. O’Connor enjoys flying as a private pilot, hiking, scuba diving and fishing around South Florida.
